comScore Data Shows Samsung Top Mobile OEM in the U.S., Apple in Second

According to new data from comScore, Apple has leapfrogged LG to take the number two spot among mobile phone makers in the U.S. — that includes all types of phones (smartphone, feature phone, dumb phone). In a three month period starting in August, the Cupertino company grabbed a 17.8 percent share of the market, jumping 1.5 points from July. LG is only trailing by .2 at 17.6 percent, but it fell from 18.4 from July to October. Apple has slowly crawled up the ladder as far as install base is concerned, previously overtaking Motorola back in April — it hasn’t looked back since. Of course, Apple still has a long way to go if it is to surpass the install base of Samsung, which currently rests at 26.3 percent in the U.S., a jump of almost a point from July.
